Working Artist - Lowell
2004
Performance
A social experiment - playing off the stereotypes of a "starving artist" and an out of work, down-on-their-luck, "bum". When people approached me the majority asked, "Do you draw portraits or drawings?" (in return for some small amount of money). My reply was no and I would ask them how they defined art and work and what they did for work. I would engage them in conversation about how society defines art, artists, work and the working class.

Additionally it was stunning to see how people would avoid me all costs - looking down, crossing the street, walking faster, or looking right through me, as if I didn't exist.
